AJU MORGAN ELUMELU FOUNDATION BEGINS CAMPAIGN FOR 35% WOMEN AFFIRMATION AGENDA IN NIGERIA

AJU MORGAN ELUMELU FOUNDATION BEGINS CAMPAIGN FOR 35% WOMEN AFFIRMATION AGENDA IN NIGERIA

The AJU Morgan Elumelu Foundation is indeed championing the 35% Affirmative Action Agenda in Nigeria, focusing on increasing women's participation in politics and leadership positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This initiative, dubbed "Women for 35%," aims to dismantle barriers limiting women's voices in politics and ensure their perspectives are valued and represented.

Key Highlights of the Initiative:

- Appointment of Ambassador: Her Royal Majesty Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi has been appointed as an ambassador for the foundation's Women for 35% initiative, marking a significant milestone in promoting women's empowerment.

- Collaboration with Stakeholders: The foundation is partnering with key stakeholders, including government agencies, political parties, and women's groups, to advocate for the implementation of the 35% affirmative action policy.

- Empowering Women: The initiative seeks to empower more women to stand for different offices, shaping a future where gender equality in governance is a reality.

The Labour Party, in particular, has expressed commitment to providing more opportunities for women in politics, with National Chairman Barr Julius Abure stating that the party will deliberately create opportunities for women to participate in the 2027 elections.

Nigeria's National Gender Policy has promoted a 35% affirmative action for women since 2006, but the policy remains largely unimplemented due to lack of structures and processes.

Countries like Rwanda and Senegal have shown that affirmative action can be an effective way to increase women's representation in politics.

Overall, the AJU Morgan Elumelu Foundation's campaign for the 35% Affirmative Action Agenda is a significant step towards promoting women's empowerment and gender equality in Nigerian politics.
