DR RUFUS EBEGBA URGES NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT &  FARMERS TO ADOPT GMO SEEDS AT INTERNATIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

Dr. Rufus Ebegba, former Director-General of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), has encouraged Nigerian farmers to adopt Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) seeds to enhance their yields.

Speaking at the International Conference on Biotechnology (ICoB24) in Abuja, Dr. Ebegba emphasized the expertise and certification of GMO seeds by the NBMA, ensuring their safety and effectiveness.



As the pioneering DG of NBMA (2015-2023), Dr. Ebegba highlighted the agency's achievements in establishing a regulatory framework for Nigeria's biosafety industry. 



He appealed to the federal government to collaborate with professionals and scientists to develop a center providing support services for farmers, enabling them to produce high-quality products using GMO seeds.



The conference, held at the NAF Center in Abuja, brought together biotechnology experts from Nigerian institutions and African representatives to discuss the latest developments and best practices in biotechnology.



Dr. Ebegba's call for adoption of GMO seeds is expected to boost Nigeria's agricultural sector and enhance food security in the country."

ABUJA -  The Labour Party has disowned Ms. Oluchi Oparah, who has been parading herself as the party's National Women Leader. In a statement signed by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party declared that Ms. Oparah was suspended indefinitely in November 2023 for anti-party activities.
